This is written and directed by Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back). This film is most similar to Chasing Amy, but does not have the Jay and Silent Bob characters, and is an attempt to do “serious” comedy. It’s good fun in many places, but the style doesn’t really suit Smith. The direction is heavy-handed in many places, and the script has the wordy style of dialogue from Chasing Amy. The film, dedicated to Smith’s father, is a personal message to his new daughter and to fatherhood.

Thankfully, JLo dies in the first 10 minutes or so. She was great in Out of Sight, but sucks in pretty much everything else. Liv Tyler is always worth watching.
